It’s going to be one heck of a week!

With the 2011 Arabnet Digital Summit happening this Tuesday the 22nd through Friday the 25th, and the 2011 Beirut Twestival happening this Thursday the 24th, there is a lot to look forward to in Beirut this week!  That is, if you’re into digital technology/media and using social media to raise awareness/funds for good causes!

Beirut Twestival 2011

A Twestival (or Twitter-Festival) is a single day, global movement which uses the power of social media to organize offline events that mobilize communities in support of a local cause.  Twestival was born out of the idea that if communities were able to collaborate on an international scale, but working from a local level, it could have a spectacular impact.

This year Twestival is going ‘Local’ in cities around the world on Thursday 24 March 2011. Events for Twestival Local will raise funds and awareness for local nonprofits that organizers identify for having an incredible impact within their own community.

This year, Beirut’s Twestival Local 2011 has chosen to support a very pressing cause: Cancer, and will do so by endorsing ‘Faire Face’, a Lebanese NGO that has been taking significant strides in it’s fight against cancer.

The partnership will see Twestival Beirut donating all the money it will raise throughout its various fund-raising activities to Faire Face’s program for early cancer detection (free mammographies, as well as psychological support for cancer victims).

And as of right now, Beirut is one of the top three cities leading the Twestival fundraising!!
